LOVIN' FIJI

In all my years of travel, of living, working and experiencing some of the great countries of the world, none has touched my soul like my beloved Africa did. Nothing could fill the void that Africa had left in my soul, no other place could fill the gap. Don't get me wrong, life has been good and I have been very content in all the places that I have lived, and particularly Australia has been very good to my little family and we feel very blessed and proud to be Aussies now. Then we found Fiji, and for the first time, the hole in my heart was filled with the kind of spiritual, gentle, warm and loving input that it needed. There was so much of everything I loved about Africa, and at the same time much was very different. Arriving in Fiji for the first time was like going home to where we belonged. My soul sang, and my creative juices flowed like never before. Fiji gave me the confidence to go public with my art, in all sorts of forms, and gave me the springboard I needed to launch my art to the world.

Where Africa's colour is in its people and the colours and patterns that they bring to their lives, Fiji's colour is it's lush, tropical environment. Even the leaves are bright and made up of every shade of bright and rich green there is. There are brightly coloured flowers or fruit on nearly every plant, from the crisp fresh white, pinks and yellows of the frangipanis to the bountiful size and colours of the hibiscus flowers. Bananas, pawpaws and mangoes bring not only colour but wonderful flavours. The fish of the sea are out of this world - every shade of the rainbow is represented. Even the sea itself shows off many exciting shades of blues, aquas, and greens and the sunsets have to be seen to be believed.

These colours, people and environments make for wonderful pieces of art. The fresh bright colours lend themselves so well to fabric painting, cross-stitch and quilting. The ideas are endless and the colours can suit everything from children's rooms to sunrooms, outdoor settings and wall decorations. I love painting palm trees with fabric paints, coconuts too, and they also make stunning cross-stitches. The fish and colours of the waters are just crying out to be represented as quilts and wall hangings. The fabric painting products can brighten any table, even if these colours aren't usually your style, they can be a fun table decorating alternative for special summer occasions.

The lovin' Fiji collection won't be out till later in the year, but we are working hard on getting it up and running. So watch this space for updates and likely launch dates when we are closer to the time.
